The New Twenty's Bittersweet Ending

I wanted to do a video blog for the next post but could not bring myself to after some heartbreaking news. My talented friend took his own life at the beginning of the summer. Unfortunately most of his friends did not find out until now, as his parents kept events very hidden and held a private funeral. Many of my recent posts have dealt with the deaths of celebrities but nothing compares to the self-inflicted death of a friend. All summer I kept wondering why he had not contacted me and why his facebook profile was gone. We'd had a drinks together 10 days before the horrible incident happened and I assumed the reason was positive- he was busy with a new film or doing a play. It just goes to show you, you can never assume anything, always, always stay close to your friends and tell them how much you love them. If only I could turn back time...

Whatever darkness was haunting Andrew beneath that smooth confidence and biting wit I hope it found it's sweet release.

Rest in peace Mr. Lin. I hope they serve good dirty martinis in heaven.

Baby Finds Herself In A Dark Corner

I spoke too soon after John Hughes died, saying that this had been a summer full of of 80s/early 90s loss....THEN Patrick Swayze died. Now the nail isn't only in the coffin, it's gone through the coffin, down to the Earth's core and back all the way round. Patrick Swayze? Really? Did you have to do that?

Okay, so pancreatic cancer had been on the cards for a while but is anyone else feeling there's some sort of horrible showbiz cleansing happening? My already broken heart is being nuked at this point. There's only one way to reconstruct it and that's to start accepting responsibility for my own progress as an entertainer. Obviously, the reason I'm so sad about these people's deaths is because they 're the origin of my own taste...I gotta live it up!

My big dream is finally taking baby steps: We had a staged reading of my TV pilot "Revivals" two weeks ago and it went better than I thought. In fact, thanks to an AMAZING cast it broke the ceiling of my and most of the audience's expectations. And let me tell you, that ceiling was thick considering I was hungover as hell from my Michael Jackson themed mega party AND had incredible fledgling writer nerves. But what can I say, it was a wonderfully It was music-themed weekend. In case this is first of my posts you've read "Revivals" is about a guy working at a dying record label, who tries to resurrect the careers of one-hit wonders (see promo video). Death is a big theme in the pilot and subconsciously it'll probably get bigger in the next re-write if this 80s/early 90s massacre continues....

Yesterday, I posted a facebook update saying "Dear Grim Reaper...just please don't take Madonna." The reactions were priceless. My favorite comment was posted by casting director Billy DaMota: "If he was young and Latin, Madonna would f*&k the reaper." Nothing like a little dark humor to round up this blog. After all, that's what will get me through this watershed year. Well, gin and tonics help too.

P.S. There's a reason Dirty Dancing and Ghost repeat on television all the time. They're really good movies!!

P.P.S. I guess I have to cut out my Ghost joke in "Revivals." It would just be tasteless.
