Wildlife

Okay, juust to make this clear, I am not complaining. I live in a gorgeous house in the hills by Griffith Park, I love the greenery, the bright flowers, the "natural" elements of the city and all creatures great and small, basking in the sunlight...BUT come nightfall, a girl needs to sleep!

The neighbor's dog doesn't get this. Him and a bunch of other hounds have been yaking away at all hours of the night. If I were less exhausted, I'd get my butt out of bed and scream back: "Hey, Barney! (a stereotype assumption) I know it's summer and I'd love to be barking loudly on some Hollywood bar patio too but I have a 6 am rise tomorrow, so kindly shut up!!" Ahhh dogs, so innocently loud but that's not it...

Two nights in a row I've been roused by weird scratching outside my window. I found out the culprits were raccoons, venturing down the stairway at the side of the building. They dig intermittedly at 2 am, 3 am, 4 am, and even 5 am, that is, if they haven't found what they are looking for. Which, by the way, I can't possibly understand what THAT is and how it could be interesting enough to require so much loud and physical effort at god awful hours. I've always been anti-fur but recently I have found myself fantasizing about a nice raccoon coat and scarf.

And finally..bugs. Yes, not only are they unattractive but apparently way noisier than I ever gave them credit for. ONE orange colored bug that was not a moth, not a bee, not anything I've seen before got trapped in my bedroom last night and it was bzzzbzzzing all night. Mother nature is obviously getting back at me for making my dad kill scary spiders when I was little.

I sound like an old cranky lady but seriously people, if I wanted the kind of entertainment I'm involuntarily receiving, I'd flip through the National Geographic. Am I right? Ms. City Slicker is being tested. Here's to me and the animals getting along in August.
